Working principle of screw air compressor and detailed explanation of oil and gas flow

July 24, 2025

一:Oil flow

1. Lubricating oil circulation: The lubricating oil is extracted from the oil tank from the bottom of the oil barrel with the pressure difference as the lubricating oil power, and is filtered by the oil filter and then transported to the compressor. The oil filter is used to remove impurities in the lubricating oil and extend the service life of the lubricating oil. The lubricating oil in the compressor mainly plays the following roles: Take away the heat of the compression process---increase the single-stage compression ratio and reduce the temperature of the compression chamber. Seal the internal gap---reduce leakage and improve compression efficiency. Lubricate the rotating parts---extend the life of the main engine.

2. Lubricating oil cooling: The high-temperature lubricating oil discharged from the compressor enters the oil cooler for cooling. The oil cooler usually uses air cooling or water cooling to reduce the lubricating oil temperature to a suitable range. The cooled lubricating oil returns to the oil tank to complete a cycle.

3. Lubricating oil filtration: The lubricating oil will be filtered through the oil filter during the circulation process to remove impurities and wear particles. Some high-end models are also equipped with oil separation online filtration devices to further improve the cleanliness of the lubricating oil.

二:Gas flow
1. Gas compression: As mentioned above, the gas is compressed inside the compressor, and the pressure and temperature gradually increase.

2. Oil-gas separation: After the oil-gas mixture is discharged from the compressor, it first enters the oil-gas separator. Primary separation: Most of the lubricating oil is separated from the gas by centrifugal force. Fine separation: The residual lubricating oil particles are separated from the gas through the oil-gas separation filter element. The separated compressed air enters the post-processing equipment.

3. Post-processing (optional): Drying: As needed, the compressed air can enter the adsorption or refrigeration dryer for drying to reduce the dew point to the required level. Filtration: The compressed air can pass through filters of different precisions to remove impurities such as solid particles, moisture, and oil mist. Deodorization: For occasions with extremely high requirements for air quality, activated carbon filters can be used to remove odors in the compressed air.

4. Air supply: The compressed air after post-processing is transported to the gas point for users to use.
